Wiaan Mulder Catch of the Match: Hilarious Trophy Mishap Goes Viral

A post-match video from the ongoing tri-nation ODI series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa has taken social media by storm. The clip captures a hilarious blunder during the Wiaan Mulder Catch of the Match award ceremony.

After New Zealand’s victory over South Africa, Mulder was honored for his stunning catch that dismissed Daryl Mitchell. However, the award presentation stole the limelight. The official holding the prize check posed with it vertically, making for an awkward moment. Mulder pointed it out, but the official flipped the check upside down instead. The player had to step in once again, making the scene an instant hit online.

The Wiaan Mulder Catch of the Match moment came when he took a spectacular diving catch near the boundary. Senuran Muthusamy bowled a full-length delivery, and Mitchell aimed for a big hit over long-off. Mulder leaped to his left, stretching mid-air to complete a breathtaking grab.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner praised his team’s effort after securing a place in the final. He highlighted the importance of fielding, especially on batting-friendly pitches. “Winning is great, but seeing different players step up is even better. We take pride in our fielding, particularly in the middle overs when partnerships build,” Santner told ESPNcricinfo.

Despite the loss, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma found positives. He praised debutant Matthew Breetzke’s impressive 150-run knock and pointed out areas for improvement. “Matty was outstanding on debut. We needed more runs, but their bowlers got movement early on. We must improve quickly as the next game comes fast,” Bavuma said.

With New Zealand in the final, Pakistan and South Africa will battle on Wednesday for the last spot.
