Team India Ready for Davis Cup 2025 World Group I Playoffs Against Togo

As the Davis Cup 2025 World Group I Playoffs draw closer, Team India is in full preparation mode, gearing up for their highly anticipated clash with Togo. The tie, set to take place at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on February 1 and 2, is shaping up to be an exciting one, with both teams bringing their best to the court.

India’s captain, Rohit Rajpal, a former Davis Cupper and a member of the 1990 Asian Games team, is leading a squad that boasts a combination of experience and youthful energy. The five-member team comprises seasoned players N Sriram Balaji, Ramkumar Ramanathan, and Mukund Sasikumar, alongside debutants Rithvik Bollipalli and Karan Singh. Rajpal expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform at a high level, stating that the players had arrived early to get used to the conditions and fine-tune their preparation. “Our objective was to maintain unwavering intensity, ensure a well-structured training camp, adapt seamlessly to the playing conditions, familiarize ourselves with the courts, and stay mentally and physically sharp.”

Rajpal shared during a press conference.

Mukund Sasikumar, India’s highest-ranked singles player, echoed the sentiments of his captain. Having returned to the Davis Cup squad after a hiatus, Sasikumar praised the team atmosphere, highlighting the importance of unity in the squad. He noted that every player, regardless of their rank, plays an essential role in the team’s success. “Each player is important to the team. “In my view, the sixth player holds just as much significance as the top-ranked player. If he doesn’t bring the same intensity to practice, the leading player won’t be able to train effectively,” Sasikumar stressed.

Togo, ranked 73rd, is coming into the match with a ten-match winning streak, including impressive victories against higher-ranked teams like Latvia. Led by captain Alisama Agnamba, the Togolese team, which includes Padio Isak, Thomas Setodji, Liova Ajavon, and M’lapa Akomlo, is hoping to cause an upset in the upcoming tie. Agnamba expressed confidence in his team’s ability, stating that the key to their success would be maintaining a strong, competitive attitude throughout the match.

The contest is shaping up to be a clash of two well-prepared teams. Rajpal, in his address, reminded everyone of the unpredictable nature of Davis Cup matches, stressing the importance of never underestimating any opponent. He also mentioned the All India Tennis Association’s plans for strengthening India’s future in the competition by establishing a Davis Cup-specific program and talent pipeline for long-term success. Discussions are already underway with the Rafael Nadal Academy in Spain to establish a training base for overseas tournaments, which would help Indian players compete at the highest level consistently.

As the match approaches, both teams are intensifying their preparations, with Setodji noting India’s early arrival and thorough readiness for the tie. “I saw there were eight players, which I think is very good,” Setodji remarked, acknowledging the Indian team’s comprehensive approach to the preparation phase.
