Shikhar Dhawan Backs India’s Decision to Skip Pakistan Tour, Prioritizes National Security

National Security Over Cricket

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has strongly backed India’s decision to avoid traveling to Pakistan, prioritizing national security over cricket. In an exclusive chat with ANI, Dhawan emphasized that cricketing ties with Pakistan should resume only after terrorism concerns are fully addressed.

“No, I don’t think so. Cricket shouldn’t come before our country’s stand. It should only resume in Pakistan once terrorism is completely eradicated,” Dhawan stated.

Political Tensions Impact Cricketing Relations

India and Pakistan have a long history of political tensions affecting their cricketing ties. Matches between the two nations are now limited to ICC events. While fans anticipate high-voltage clashes, Shikhar Dhawan stressed that such decisions are made at the government level, beyond the control of players.

“Governments must align first, then cricket boards coordinate. Only after that do players come into the picture. If our country has decided against playing in Pakistan, we fully support that stance,” he explained.

Champions Trophy Matches at a Neutral Venue

India has officially chosen to play its Champions Trophy 2025 matches at a neutral venue, likely in the UAE, rather than traveling to Pakistan. This decision aligns with India’s long-standing policy of avoiding bilateral cricket with Pakistan outside of ICC tournaments.

BCCI’s Influence in Global Cricket

Pakistan has often criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), claiming India’s financial power gives it dominance in ICC decisions. However, Dhawan dismissed these concerns.

“No worries, let it be,” he responded when asked about Pakistan’s objections.

Firm Stand on National Interests

Dhawan’s comments reflect the broader sentiment in Indian cricket—national security takes precedence. While cricket can unite nations, India remains firm that political stability must come first. With the Champions Trophy set to take place in Pakistan, India’s participation at a neutral venue ensures the tournament proceeds without compromising national priorities.
