Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen will spearhead India’s campaign at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship, set to take place in Qingdao, China, from February 11 to 16.
India, which secured a bronze medal in the previous edition held in Dubai in 2023, is aiming for a stronger performance this time.
Selection Based on Rankings and Form
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) emphasized that the team selection was based on players’ current form and world rankings. Alongside Sindhu and Sen, HS Prannoy and Malvika Bansod have been picked as the second men’s and women’s singles players, respectively.
Strong Doubles Lineup
The Indian team features a formidable doubles lineup, including Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are among the world’s top men’s doubles pairs. In the women’s doubles category, the team has Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, with an alternative pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto.
In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto will team up with Dhruv Kapila, while Sathish Kumar K and Adya Variyath will serve as the second combination.
BAI Sets High Targets
“Winning the bronze medal last time was a great achievement, but this year, our goal is to reach the finals. Once we get there, anything is possible, and we will give it our all,” said BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra.
