Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to persistent lower back pain that hasn’t responded to rehabilitation. His participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is also uncertain, according to reports.
Cricket Australia Confirms Marsh’s Absence
Cricket Australia (CA) released a statement confirming that the 33-year-old will not feature in the tournament scheduled to take place in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9.
“Mitchell Marsh’s hopes of gracing the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy have been dashed, as his stubborn lower back pain continues to keep him sidelined. Despite rehabilitation efforts, the injury hasn’t shown enough improvement for a return.”
His back pain flared up in recent weeks, forcing the selectors to prioritize his long-term recovery.
Australia to Name a Replacement Soon
The National Selection Panel (NSP) will meet soon to finalize Marsh’s replacement. He was initially named in the 15-member squad alongside all-rounders Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis.
“With the February 12 deadline approaching for final squad submissions, the NSP is set to convene soon to determine Mitchell Marsh’s replacement for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy”
Marsh’s IPL 2025 Stint in Jeopardy
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had recently signed Marsh for the 2025 IPL season, set to begin on March 23. However, his availability remains uncertain as he undergoes further rest and rehabilitation.
Struggles in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Marsh was dropped for the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after an underwhelming performance. In four Tests, he:
✅ Managed double-digit scores in just one of seven innings
✅ Had a limited impact as a bowler
