Harry Brook Faces Criticism After Struggles Against Varun Chakravarthy

Following his dismissal against spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the first T20I, Harry Brook attributed his struggles to the foggy conditions in Kolkata, stating it made it difficult to read the ball. However, England’s batting woes continued in the second T20I in Chennai, where Chakravarthy failed to take a single wicket but remained a focal point of discussions.

Ashwin’s Response to Brook’s Comments

In a video on his YouTube channel, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin critiqued Brook’s explanation after the series opener at Eden Gardens. Ashwin pointed out technical flaws in Brook’s batting approach, stating:

“You moved towards leg stump and couldn’t read the delivery, so it fell. Then you covered the stumps and took a big step, but you can’t read it with Google—you fell again.”

Ashwin also added a sharp remark about Brook’s inability to read Chakravarthy’s deliveries:

“No matter how bright it is, if you don’t read the delivery from his hand, you will struggle.”

Social Media Trolls and Criticism from Former Cricketers

Since the conclusion of the Chennai match, Brook has faced widespread trolling on social media for his comments about the “fog” in Kolkata. Former Indian cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar also mocked the English batter, emphasizing the clear conditions in Chennai and questioning Brook’s reasoning.

While Brook’s comments have sparked debates, the series highlighted the effectiveness of India’s spin attack and the challenges England’s batters face against mystery spinners like Varun Chakravarthy.
