BCCI Stands Firm on India-Pakistan Bilateral Cricket
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla made it clear on Wednesday that the resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan depends solely on the Indian government’s decision. Speaking in Lahore, where he attended the Champions Trophy semifinal between New Zealand and South Africa, Shukla reiterated that BCCI follows government directives on cricketing ties with Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Hosting Praised but No Neutral Venue for Bilateral Matches
Shukla acknowledged that Pakistan hosting an international tournament after a long gap was a positive development. However, he dismissed the idea of India-Pakistan bilateral matches being played at a neutral venue.
No Special Advantage for India in Champions Trophy
Responding to claims that India played only at one venue in the tournament, Shukla clarified that the decision was made at the ICC level. He emphasized that India’s success did not depend on pitch conditions but on the team’s skill and performance.
Final to Be Played in Dubai, Not Lahore
When asked why the final was not scheduled in Lahore, Shukla cleverly replied, “For that, Australia should have won yesterday. But since they lost, the final will be played in Dubai.”
With the Asia Cup’s scheduling also remaining unchanged, Shukla reaffirmed BCCI’s commitment to its policies while maintaining diplomatic cricketing ties.
