Teen Sensation Continues Dream Run at Dubai Championships

Teenager Mirra Andreeva pulled off another upset at the Dubai Championships, defeating seventh-seeded Elena Rybakina to reach the final. The 17-year-old Russian fought back from 1-3 in the final set to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. She is now the youngest player to make a WTA 1000 final.

Historic Feat: Youngest WTA 1000 Finalist

Andreeva’s Dubai run includes wins over Grand Slam champions Iga Swiatek, Marketa Vondrousova, and now Rybakina. She awaits Clara Tauson or Karolina Muchova in Saturday’s final. Regardless of the opponent, Andreeva has already made history.

Rematch with Rybakina

Andreeva and Rybakina met before in Beijing 2023, where Rybakina won in three sets. “Last time, I had chances, but she played aggressively and won,” Andreeva said.

This time, Andreeva was determined. A strong backhand return earned her a break in game five. Though Rybakina broke back, Andreeva regained control to take the first set in 46 minutes.

Tight Second Set

Rybakina, who saved six match points against Paula Badosa earlier, fought hard. She took the second set to force a decider.

Comeback in the Final Set

Rybakina led 3-1 in the final set, but Andreeva fought back, winning five straight games to seal the victory.

This win puts Andreeva in her first WTA 1000 final and marks her as a rising star.

What’s Next?

Andreeva faces either Clara Tauson or Karolina Muchova next. No matter the result, her Dubai run has shown she is a future star.
