Mohammad Amir Predicts India's Shock Exit from Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has made a bold prediction ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, stating that India will not reach the semi-finals. Amir believes that Jasprit Bumrah’s absence will be a significant setback, leaving the Indian bowling attack vulnerable in Dubai conditions. He backed Pakistan and New Zealand to advance from Group A, dismissing India’s chances.

New Zealand Over India? Amir Explains Why

Speaking on the Pakistan-based show ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, Amir labeled New Zealand as the most balanced team in Group A, even ahead of India.

“I think New Zealand are the most balanced side in Group A. Not even India,” Amir claimed.

He highlighted India’s bowling struggles, stating that Mohammed Shami is not in peak form after returning from injury.

“India are massively disadvantaged without Bumrah. Shami isn’t bowling like before, and I don’t think they can rely on him.”

Amir further added that New Zealand’s squad depth gives them the edge over India.

“New Zealand are performing well in all departments. Their pacers are in form, and their spin trio—Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, and Glenn Phillips—are delivering consistently.”

India’s Strong Champions Trophy History

Despite Amir’s claim, India has historically performed well in the Champions Trophy. They:

  • Won the 2013 edition under MS Dhoni
  • Reached the 2017 final, losing to Pakistan
  • Dominated the 2023 ODI World Cup, making the final
  • Thrashed England 3-0 in an ODI series before this tournament

India will play all their matches in Dubai, which could work in their favor. However, Pakistan, the defending champions from 2017, are also eyeing another title run.

Can India Prove Mohammad Amir Wrong?

While Amir’s prediction is bold, India remains one of the tournament favorites. Their batting lineup, led by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill, is among the strongest. Their bowling, even without Bumrah, still boasts talent in Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja.

With India aiming for their third Champions Trophy title, all eyes will be on their group-stage performances. Will they prove Amir wrong, or will his prediction come true?
