Indian Duo Challenges Babar Azam for No. 1 Ranking

With just a week remaining for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and young batting sensation Shubman Gill are closing in on the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings 2025. The latest update keeps Pakistan captain Babar Azam at the top, but the Indian duo has significantly narrowed the gap. Gill has climbed to second place, just five rating points behind Babar, after back-to-back half-centuries. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, currently third, trails the Pakistan batter by only 13 rating points after his century in Cuttack.

Top Players Return to ODI Rankings

Several top players have returned to the rankings ahead of the ICC event. Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman is now ranked 13th. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson (29th), England’s Jos Buttler (38th), Devon Conway (40th), and Joe Root (51st) have also made their way back after re-entering the 50-over format.

Bowlers Battle for Top Spots

The competition among bowlers remains intense. Just 18 rating points separate the top five—Rashid Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Bernard Scholtz, Shaheen Afridi, and Kuldeep Yadav. Indian all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (11th) and Mohammed Shami (13th) have climbed higher in the ICC ODI rankings 2025 after strong performances against England.

Mohammad Nabi Leads All-Rounders

Afghanistan’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi continues to lead the all-rounder rankings. However, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has made notable progress, climbing two spots to seventh.

Big Shifts in Test Rankings

The latest Test rankings have seen significant changes after Australia’s Test series win over Sri Lanka and Ireland’s historic victory against Zimbabwe. Australia’s Usman Khawaja has re-entered the top 10 Test batters at ninth. Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has jumped 11 places to 18th after scoring a century in the second Test.

Kusal Mendis has taken a giant leap in the rankings, soaring 14 places to claim the 28th spot—a testament to his rising dominance in world cricket! Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker (up five places to 49th) and Andy McBrine (up 17 places to 70th) have also moved up after their performances in Bulawayo.

Rising Stars in Bowling Rankings

Among bowlers, Australia’s Nathan Lyon has reached a career-high rating, moving up to fifth in the Test rankings. Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani is the biggest mover, climbing 14 places to 29th.
