The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) marked a historic milestone by achieving the Guinness World Record for the largest cricket ball sentence, created with 14,505 red and white cricket balls. This extraordinary feat was part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Wankhede Stadium, one of India’s most iconic cricket venues.
About the Guinness World Record
- The record was created at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, using 14,505 cricket balls arranged to form a sentence.
- It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first international match played at the stadium, held from January 23-29, 1975, between India and West Indies.
A Tribute to Mumbai Cricket Legends
MCA president Ajinkya Naik dedicated the record to the memory of late Mumbai cricket stalwarts, including Eknath Solkar, who had scored a century in the inaugural Test match at Wankhede.
“This remarkable milestone, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Test match at Wankhede, is a heartfelt tribute to the Late Shri Eknath Solkar and other former Mumbai cricketers who have left an indelible mark on Mumbai cricket but are no longer with us,” Naik said.
Encouraging Aspiring Cricketers
In a generous gesture, MCA announced that the cricket balls used in the record-setting event will be distributed to schools, clubs, and NGOs across Mumbai. The aim is to inspire young, aspiring cricketers to achieve greater milestones in their careers.
